Week wrap up

This is my first post with the Blogsy app on my iPad.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2weeks ago, We found a wee baby bird in a nest right next to my rose garden.
The week before he had bulgy eyes and no feathers, yesterday he/she had flown the nest
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This is what 2 chickens look like that have been left in the weber BBQ for 20 hours.
Nice marinated 40 garlic clove roasted chickens.

I had put them on for dinner at 4.30 in the afternoon, thinking they would be ready at 6.30- 7.00.
When we were leaving to collect dad from town, whose car was in for a service, I lifted the lid and it had gone cold. Great! the gas had run out, so I swapped over the gas bottle from the other BBQ.
I had to find something else for dinner.
Crumbed lamb cutlets to the rescue!
It was at lunchtime the next day and I was sitting at my desk and I was chatting with a co worker about Murri curries, and I thought that's what I will do with the left over chicken.
Ka boom! A bit more than a lightbulb moment!
It was like a bomb going off in my brain.
I remembered that I hadn't actually taken the chickens off the Barbie!
So I drove really quickly home and was astonished to find that the weber was still burning away at about 170 degrees.

2 totally dried out and brick like chooks.
Thank goodness there wasn't a fire.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In other good news, our chickens are laying as if it is the egg Olympics.
One day there were 18 eggs, then 17, then 16 for a couple of days.
Someone on instagram, commented on that's a lot.
I like to share the joy of fresh eggs with people at work.
Of course our wee one made his scrambled eggs!
Here seen smothered in Barbeque sauce.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have joined in again with the Fox in flats style dare, this week it is to wear something with a flower on/in it.

I don't know why but perching on a certain stool does it for me!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thursday night saw us eating noodles.
Only as dad was away, he doesn't like them.
But I notice that he has no problems with them as leftovers!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This little fella and his mate keep on visiting me at work, they are getting closer and closer.

I've just been to the nursery and have a fair bit more planting to do!
A few roses, 2 quince trees, 2 fig trees and lots of other punnets and smaller plants.
Up and at Em.

Still Springing!

Yesterday for the first day of Spring the trees were really popping out.
The Big English Oak was really showing off.
Even though it is a bit chilly, the process has started.

sending out it's leaves and flowers all at once.

Celtis Sinensis is doing the same.

I am keen to see these mulberries fruit right up.
Last year this tree gave me so many 2 inch long fat mulberries!

This Lime sitting in the chookyard is throwing out heaps of flowers and leaves.
I think the chookies may have stripped it a bit bare!

The rosemary all up the driveway is constantly in flower.

I think I need to cut it back.

I am absolutely thrilled to see this Meyer lemon producing babies!
I just can't wait to make something with it. They say Meyers are the sweetest of them all.
I wonder how they rate with Lemonade ones. I have one of them too.

Reminder to self to spray for scale.
This little ground cover can be a bit hit and miss.
I have 8 of them up the driveway and about half of them look to be so dreadful and the other half are fantastic.
I don't know what I've done wrong there!

The doggies are really enjoying all the time we are spending outside!

She was so hard to get to sit still and be photographed!
She's only young and very 'bouncy'.

This little Cairn Terrier fella will sit and pose until the cows come home!
He is quite the show pony!
All I have to do is whisper 'mouse' and I get their attention!

Dont you just love my husband and son's humour.
They found this at the nursery last week and snuck it into position at the back door!

Here is the gold crown I lost on Friday night, while chewing away on a hard cough lolly (sugar free!)
See the hole? They drilled through the crown to do root canal (12 months ago!) and I was meant to go back 6 months ago to get the job finished.
But there hasn't been a good time!
Well I will have to make time now!!!!
It is a teeny bit tender or weird feeling.
Hhhmn a bit gross!

Still, it matches my ring really nicely.
Even though it should never be seen near it!

Have a great week and keep your crowns on your head!

It's here! - Spring 2012

My garden is showing signs that it's Spring.
Only little ones.
It seems that Mother nature may have got a bit confused.
She jumped the gun a couple of weeks ago.
Outside it all fresh and beautiful and we are holed up inside nursing sore throats, temperatures and runny noses.
The doctor told my husband yesterday that he had the flu.
We had an Fundraiser to go to tonight.
Hubby was doing the Auction and MC work.
Luckily they have found a friend who is excellent at this sort of gig too and can step in.
It's a major disappointment that we can't go.
Hubby has the man flu.
Even Nanny is sick in the Nursing home with it.
I have what seems a bad cold, sore throat and sore ears.
My gold crown came off chewing a eucalyptus drop last night, whoops!
Hhhmn. No more hard cough lollies.
Back to drug therapy.

Better still- Back to the garden.

This flowering plum is always the first one to show off.

The cockies had a bit of a chew on it during the week, you can see the branches on the ground.

The lavender was only teeny weeny last year.
Now it is quite the size
They are all different sizes in the bed, mainly due to the fact that the dogs squash them, laying on that sunny bed. I have a set of wire protectors over the bed until they get up a bit.
I also planted some silver bell bushes between them last week.
I am going to prune a bit off this plant.
The trick is not to take it back to the woody part of the stem.
But keep in the green bit.

I hate that lavender doesn't seem to be long lived.

It gets some sort of mould or fungus.
And I'm so very careful not to water it in the evening.

But it is so glorious.

The wisteria has the buds all fattening up and looking to burst.
There is a hint of purple in the buds.

The roses have really come away since I pruned them last weekend, just before I flushed my phone!
I've bought lots of fertiliser to spread around them.

I am super impressed with these white vinca under the snow pears that went in last year.
I thought that they were a bit useless but they're now showing all sorts of spreading and new shoots.

And the Banksia rose hedge on my front fence is always a pure delight.
I think that it might be about 12 foot high with the bottom 3 feet being supported by the fence.
It is absolutely stunning when it is in full bloom.
It's started.
In fact, it started a few weeks ago.
I hope it holds for a few more weeks.

The fruit trees have been at it too.
The Mulberries sprung a few weeks ago and I was frightened of a frost wiping them out, but they seem to have done ok.

Last week I bought about 10 fruit trees.
I have missed them since my husband bulldozed the orchard a couple of years ago.
So I have done quite the strange thing.
I generally don't like to see fruit trees in the formal part of gardens.
I have always thought they should be reserved for backyards.
But I have taken a leap and put 3 apricot, 2 peacharines and a nectarine tree in my rose garden, which is the second garden bed that you see when you arrive at my house. It's right next to the visitor car park.
Last year I put all sorts of other plants in the rose garden as it was a bit boring.
Not many of them survived.
The iris, society garlic and hippeastrums are all good.
Hhhmn a bit of a bulby theme there!
The butterfly bushes didn't do well, but there are seedlings of them coming up.

Peacharine.

Nectarine and figs in the background waiting to go in the ground.

The Eureka lemons are all flowering again.
They still have all their lemons on them.
I love that a Eureka is a big tree and will give you fruit ALL year round.
The most perfect one to have in the yard.

As long as I can keep the cockies off them.

You can see the baby lemons growing before the flower petals have even fallen off.

 Out the front, the Purple honeysuckle has sprouted lots of new growth.
Thank goodness!
I thought that  it may have been a waste of money, but I hope it goes feral as I want it to spread all over that hard to fill spot.

Honeysuckle with a complimentary bit of blowaway grass.

The Snow Pears are doing really well too.
They were quite the expensive risk to take to put up our driveway.
There are 8 of them and they have all survived year one.

They'll be beautiful in a couple of years when they're a bit fuller in the head/canopy.

My potted Geraniums have gone a bit berserk too.

The Scarlet ashes have popped out their little flowers too.

In between the snow pears are the fragrant Viburnum.
They were brand new and didn't flower for us last year and I can't wait to smell their fragrance.

And here is my haul to get in the ground today and tomorrow.
Pink and cream spreading gazanias, white Marguerite daisies, erigeron, herbs and spreading white petunias.

Markets on Sunday and I am buying up more plants.
That is if our flus cease there debilitation and we can get there!

What is going on in your garden?

Calves, calves, calves!!!

I love this time of year.
All the calves are being born.
We have all sorts of pretty ones.
Commercial cattle can be any shade!

These girl swere walking up to the dam on sunset.

There seems to be a whole heap of twin mumma cows!
You will often find a whole heap of little calves plonked under a tree with one cow looking after them all, almost like a nanny.
All around will be the cows grazing away happily.

It is hard to know who is the mumma.
And the cows check them ever so carefully to make sure they don't share milk with anyone but their baby.

As we drove past the dam there were a couple of calves on the bank that just stood and stared at we aliens.

These little guys had absolutely no idea that they had to get off the road so that we could get past.

Then the lighter one just stood there and bellowed at me!

Cheeky thing!
